Paper 1 Structure:
Paper 1 of the Visual Arts Grade 12 exam question paper focuses on the theory part of “Visual Culture Studies“. This is a three-hour paper that contains 8 questions in total. Learners have to choose only 5 questions to answer in the exam. See the 8 questions and the mark allocations on the table below:

In the Visual Arts Grade 12 exam paper, students are required to answer only questions in essay style, using full sentences and paragraphs according to the instructions for each question. If you only provide a list of facts, instead of writing in essay format, you will be severely penalised and lose marks. The nature of essay questions consists of shorter and longer essay-type questions.
Paper 2 Structure:
Paper 2 of Visual Arts Grade 12 is a practical examination, focusing on 2 topics, which are the following:
Conceptualising at school and/or home during Term 3 – 50 Marks
Must be done ONLY at school during the 4th term undercontrolled conditions: a minimum of 12 hours and a maximumof 24 hours -50 Marks
Paper 2 examination question paper consists of 26 pages more or less in total. You have to complete both Topic 1 (Sourcebook) and Topic 2 (Artwork).
